Would you consider "Purpose" as a leadership trait?

I would say - absolutely! Actually, purpose is a more important trait for leaders than followers. Paul reminds us in Acts 10:22 "I consider my life worth nothing to me...if only I may finish the race and complete the task." He had purpose and was clear on it.

I believe EACH of us has a purpose and as leaders, we have the opportunity to lead others in helping to fulfill not only our purpose or our business' purpose, but to discover and fulfill theirs as well.

When a team member is working and doesn't see their purpose...the often become uninspired and unmotivated and this type of work has the potential to drain the life out of them.

Every person you read about in scriptures had a purpose:
  • Adam - named all the animals and was the father of every person on the Earth
  • Noah - built the ship that would house the animals and some people to populate the Earth after the catastrophic flood
  • Abraham - sole voice that there was only ONE God - Yahweh
  • Moses - led the people out of Egypt, taught them a new way of life and worship, and got them to the land promised to them by God
  • Paul - spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to the gentiles
  • and of course...Jesus Christ - to die for every single persons' sin - past, present, and future. To be the final sacrifice and atonement.
Modern day...we can look at Billy Graham, Mother Teresa, even Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and Fred Smith who all had a purpose to which they each worked and focused their time and energy.

"The ability to formulate a clear, compelling purpose and stay 'on purpose' is often the difference between success and failure, between an inspired and inspiring work life and the mere pursuit of profit or a paycheck." Lorin Woolfe, Leadership Secrets from the Bible.  Discovering and moving toward YOUR purpose often involves thinking big...bigger than you!

Are you up for the challenge? The opportunity? The fulfillment?
