Faith vs. Risk...can the two co-exist?

Faith: we see defined in scripture as "the confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." (Hebrews 11:1)

Risk: possibility of loss or injury; someone or something that creates or suggests a hazard; A factor, thing, element, or course involving uncertain danger

Both RISK and FAITH allude to future and uncertainty, but RISK has an overtone of danger and risk while FAITH is grounded in hope.

As a leader, is it possible to create an environment of positive RISK built on the foundation of HOPE? As a strategic and effective leader, I would say, yes! It is a bit more of a challenge simply because of the general understanding of RISK, but what an incredible challenge and opportunity for you as a leader in and of your company to provide this environment.

Here's three ideas of how you might accomplish this:
  1. Lay a clear vision of the possibilities of the future when specific goals are achieved.
  2. Bathe that vision in effective and accurate communication with your entire company and team.
  3. Surround the communication with realistic, yet positive pictures of the steps to achieve the goals and outcome.
This will provide FAITH in the midst of RISK and allow you to be a more effective leader.
