Audacious...audacity

This word has come across my path fairly frequently lately...and again while reading "Leadership Secrets from the Bible" by Lorin Woolfe.
  • BHAG - Big Hairy Audacious Goals as coined by Jim Collins in the 90s
  • Audacity - was in a sermon recently
  • Audacious desire to be Jesus to others
What does it really mean and how does it relate to leaders? I find it helpful to first start with the definition:

  1. extremely bold or daring; recklessly brave; fearless
  2. extremely original; without restriction to prior ideas; highly inventive
  3. recklessly bold in defiance of convention, propriety, law, or the like; insolent; brazen.
OK, I'm beginning to get a sense of what "audacious" means, what are some synonyms?
  • courageous
  • intrepid
  • dauntless
  • venturesome
  • unabashed
  • shameless
  • impertinent
  • forward
In respect to a leader, being willing to be audacious seems like a requirement for effective leadership. If a leader is not willing to be bold, daring, original (aka "think outside the box"), brazen, courageous, and venturesome...I dare say their leadership may not be as effective as what it could be! How audacious are you?  When was the last time you were daring, reckless, and fearless? What are you facing today that could benefit from a dose of audacity?
